Advocates for Accessible Sidewalks

The Cities of Grass Valley and Nevada City have ordinances that require property owners to maintain the sidewalk area alongside their properties. For many reasons including staffing limitations, there has not been enough follow through on these ordinances resulting in sidewalks that are in poor condition or have brush, debris, cars, etc, making use of the sidewalk a difficult and sometimes hazardous event. LHNC has been a vocal advocate for improvements in this area and are active in proposing solutions that would have a low impact on the Cities, but a big positive outcome for residents. We have politely notified residences where vegetation has encroached on the sidewalk and have voluntarily cleared brush where assistance has been required. We encourage all residents to keep sidewalks clear and to assist neighbors when they are physically unable to do the work. Let’s make all our sidewalks as Walkable as possible.
